I have written an article entitled "Selling your law firm?  What to do and what NOT to do". For details go to:  www.corelegal.net/2015/07

Here is a listing of the current firms we have for sale:-

We are delighted to have been retained to dispose of a Sole Practitioner Solicitors’ Practice based in N W London.

The Principal is interested in selling the practice as a going concern due to his desire to retire, although he might be willing to continue working for a time after disposal to smooth a transition.

My Client has asked me to emphasise that this is no way a distress disposal and he will be looking for a realistic goodwill payment.

Turnover for the current financial year is in the region of circa £307K plus around £36K of WIP.  However, because of the excellent location, there is incredible potential for expansion, especially in the field of legal aid for children.  My Client’s firm holds Lexcel accreditation, CQS membership and my Client is also on the Law Society's Family Law Panel.

This Practice was originally started in the 1940s. The revenue is made up of 30% Residential Conveyancing, 8% Commercial Property, 10% Landlord + Tenant, 4% Wills/Trusts/Probate, 8% General Litigation, 1% employment, 11% Legally Aid Family work, 26% privately funded family work and 2% miscellaneous.  There are around 1,000 wills, deeds and some LPAs/EPAs.

Apart from the Principal, there is one qualified fee earner, two trainees and a practice manager/bookkeeper.  My Client operates the Practice from freehold premises owned by his pension fund with space for four offices and about 500 sq. ft. of usable office space. He would be prepared to grant a lease on reasonably flexible terms.

There are no P I claims and their P I policy has been renewed until October 2017.  They are also on virtually all of the major conveyancing panels.  This area is very active from a residential conveyancing aspect and most major estate agents have an office in the town.

The offices are based in an excellent geographical location, on a main road with continual passing traffic and footfall, adjacent to a number of major retail outlets as well as being in the centre of the commercial heart of this vibrant town.

An underground station and an over-ground station are just 300 metres away with excellent connections to central London.

This Practice would be ideal for one or two individuals who are looking to start up their own first practice. We believe this Practice would also be of interest to Practices in the Provinces who would like to expand their exposure to legal work in the North West London areas of Greenford, Pinner, Eastcote, Ruislip, Harrow, Sudbury Hill, Kenton, Brent, Northwick Park and Wembley although the current Principal draws clients from around the greater London as well as South Herts.

This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a thriving high street practice with potential for expansion and development. It is a long established general practice situated in the London Borough of Croydon. For the current year fee income is made up of 11% Residential Conveyancing 12% Litigation 9% Non-Contentious, 3% Commercial Conveyancing, 54% Wills and Probate, 8% Matrimonial and 3% Landlord and Tenant. The practice comprises fully equipped offices with an internet presence. The Principal is interested in selling the practice as a going concern due to his desire to retire although he would be willing to continue working for a short time after disposal to smooth a transition. The transfer of the practice will not include any employed staff. The practice is operated from leased offices with the practice holding over. The buyer will therefore have an opportunity to negotiate mutually agreeable terms. The practice would be ideal for one or two individuals who are looking to start up their own practice or for an existing firm who wishes to expand their practice and or move into a new geographical area.  For more information, email solicitorsupermarketbiz@gmail.com quoting “Croydon”.

This is a Sole Practitioner Solicitors’ Practice based in Oxfordshire that specialises in Matrimonial work.

The Principal is interested in selling the practice as a going concern due to her desire to retire, although she might be willing to continue working for a short time after disposal to smooth a transition.

Turnover for the current financial year is projected to be in the region of circa £178K.

This Practice was originally started in 1993. Apart from the Principal, there are no other employed staff and as my Client operates the Practice from her home, this would also enable an acquirer to uplift the firm to another geographical location without any dilapidations or lease termination expenses.

There are no legal aid franchises and the firm has an excellent P I claims record with no claims ever having been reported.

The bulk of my Clients revenue is generated from family/matrimonial/children work for high net worth affluent clients.

This Practice would be ideal for one or two individuals who are looking to start up their own first practice.

We believe this Practice would also be of interest to Practices who would like to expand their exposure to matrimonial work in the Oxfordshire area. We also anticipate enquiries from Firms in the provinces interested in expanding and who would like to use this Practice as a platform to the lucrative legal environment in the Thames Valley, M40 and A34 corridors.

We are delighted to have been retained to dispose of an old established two Partner Solicitors’ Practice based in the North Kent/London Borders area.

The Partners are interested in selling the practice as a going concern. Both partners would be willing to continue working after disposal to smooth a transition or for a longer term.

Turnover for the last financial year was in the region of £640K.

The revenue is made up of 23% Residential Conveyancing and Commercial Property, 6% Dispute Resolution, 35% Wills/Trusts/Probate/LPAs, 12% Family and 24% Specialist Litigation.  There are around 6,200 wills, deeds and some LPAs/EPAs.

Apart from the two Partners, there are four other employed fee earners plus a number of support staff, including a full time bookkeeper. They have COLP & COFA routines in place. My Clients operate the Practice from leased offices on the main road through the centre of this Kent town with continual passing traffic and footfall as well as being adjacent to a number of major retail outlets.  However, the Lease has expired and my Clients are holding over.  It is unlikely that the Landlord would not grant a new lease to a purchaser although this would also enable the purchaser to uplift the firm to another geographical location without any dilapidations or lease termination expenses.

The Partners decided not to continue with legal aid work many years ago and have a good P I claims record with cover in place until 30th March 2017.

The offices are within a few minutes’ walk of a National Rail station with an excellent service to London which is about 40 minutes away.

This Practice would be ideal for one or two individuals who are looking to start up their own first practice. We believe this Practice would also be of interest to Practices in the Provinces who would like to expand their exposure to legal work in the Kent and South East London areas.

This is a three Partner Solicitors’ Practice based in the Whitechapel/city fringes area.

The equity Partners are interested in selling the practice as a going concern due to their desire to make a life style choice to focus on other interests and priorities, although at least one of the Partners might be willing to continue working for a time after disposal to smooth a transition.

My Clients have asked me to emphasise that this is no way a distress disposal and my clients will be looking for a realistic goodwill payment.

Turnover for the current financial year is projected to be in the region of circa £900K plus around £260K of WIP.

This Practice was originally started in 1992. The revenue is made up of 30% Residential Conveyancing, 10% Commercial Property, 30% General Litigation, 15% Wills/Trusts/Probate and 15% Immigration/Family.  There are around 2,000 wills, deeds and some LPAs/EPAs.

Apart from three Partners, there are nine other employed fee earners plus a number of support staff.  My Clients operates the Practice from elegant Grade II listed freehold offices which they would be prepared to lease although this would also enable an acquirer to uplift the firm to another geographical location without any dilapidations or lease termination expenses.

There are no legal aid franchises and the firm has an exceptional P I claims record.  They are also on virtually all of the major conveyancing panels and have Lexcel and CQS accreditations.

The offices are based in an excellent geographical location, on a main road with continual passing traffic and footfall as well being adjacent to a number of major retail outlets.

At least three underground stations and one over-ground station are within a few minutes’ walk and the Cross Rail link will be within a five minute of their offices.

This Practice would be ideal for one or two individuals who are looking to start up their own first practice. We believe this Practice would also be of interest to Practices in the Provinces who would like to expand their exposure to legal work in the City, Docklands and East London areas.

The Principal is interested in selling the practice as a going concern due to his desire to retire although he would be willing to continue working for a short time after disposal to smooth a transition.

Turnover for the current financial year is projected to be in the region of £316K.

Apart from the Principal, there are two other fee earners.

My Client operates his practice from leased office space.  The lease expires in 2017 which would also enable an acquirer to uplift the firm to another geographical location without any significant dilapidations or lease termination expenses.

This is an old established Sole Practitioner Solicitors’ Practice based in the LU postcode area on the Beds/Bucks border and with close proximity to Milton Keynes.

Turnover for the current financial year is projected to be in the region of circa £45K.  In addition, there is an estimated £11K of WIP in the files.

The bulk of my Clients revenue is generated from residential conveyancing and his practice is on most of the major conveyancing panels.

This Practice would be ideal for one or two individuals who are looking to start up their own first practice.

We believe this Practice would also be of interest to Practices who would like to expand their exposure to private and commercial client work in the Bucks/Beds area. We also anticipate enquiries from Firms in the provinces interested in expanding and who would like to use this Practice as a platform to the lucrative legal environment in the M1 and A5 areas.

Apart from the Principal, there are two fee earners and two support staff.

Of particular interest is the fact that my Client owns the freehold of his offices which are on two levels, the ground floor benefitting from double frontage at pedestrian level.  This would enable the acquiring party to lease or rent the offices or possibly buy the freehold.  This would also enable an acquirer to move the firm to another geographical location without any dilapidations or lease termination expenses.

A relatively new Practice based close to the M11 are looking to expand and develop a branch network in the Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire areas and would even be interested in a Central London location.  They are looking at acquiring small practices – Sole Practitioners as well as 2 or 3 Partner/Director firms – where the Principals are approaching retirement or feel they have a lack of critical mass to make their firm sufficiently profitable.  Ideally, they would be looking for the Principals/Solicitors to stay for a period to smooth the transition.  They are particularly interested in firms that handle non legal aid family/matrimonial, general private client work, crime and civil litigation.

For more information, email solicitorsupermarketbiz@gmail.com quoting: M11

Expanding 10 Partner Central London Practice interested in Merging or making Acquisitions

We are delighted to have been retained by the above practice who are looking to expand and are interested in hearing from Principals/Partners of smaller Practices who might be looking for an exit route and who would consider an arrangement with a Central London Firm worth exploring.

My Clients are already handling work in the following categories – Residential Conveyancing, Commercial Property, Civil Litigation, Family, Crime, Immigration, Estate Planning and General Commercial.  They already hold franchises in Family, Crime and Immigration.  They are interested in expanding their work exposure in their existing categories but would not be averse to consider moving into other areas of law where such opportunities exist.

They are happy to consider merging with or the acquisition/absorption of Practices within a reasonable commute of central London.

They would be prepared to listen to proposals from the Principals/Partners of firms who would find an attraction in being part of a larger organisation and who might find the offer of, say, Equity, Partnership, Employment or Consultancy a very real alternative to continuing the running their own Practices in this tough economic climate.

This is a two partner solicitors’ practice on the Berkshire/Surrey borders. The Partners would be interested in potentially merging the practice with a forward looking firm for the mutual benefit of all parties.

The Firm is located within the Golden Triangle of the M4/M3/M25 and is less than 10 miles from Heathrow Airport. The area is very much in a desirable "Stockbroker" belt with a large number of high net worth residents - both U.K. and foreign.

The offices have A2 planning use for professional and financial services and are situated at the junction of a busy main road with continual passing traffic. Free car parking facilities are adjacent and there is a national rail station with access to Waterloo and the City.

The partners own the freehold of the premises which are leased to the Firm. The offices are computer networked.

Income is circa £500,000 a year which comprises approximately residential conveyancing (30%), commercial conveyancing (10%), wills and probate (26%) and family law (34%).

The Firm holds a legal aid franchise in family law.

In addition to the two partners there are three fee earners and four support staff. The Firm holds more than 2,000 wills and a similar number of deeds.

The Firm is strategically located in an affluent area and has great potential for growth.

We believe this Practice would be of interest to provincial Firms wishing to gain a foothold to the West of London to develop their Commercial and Private Client bases in this increasingly attractive area.

This is a Sole Principal Conveyancing Practice with an office in Worcestershire.  The Principal is looking to dispose of the Practice as a going concern but would be willing to remain after disposal for a short while to smooth the transition.

Due to the recession, turnover has dropped from a very healthy and profitable £100,000 to around £45,000 - £50,000 and is made up virtually exclusively of residential conveyancing although there are also around 1,000 wills and deeds.  Apart from the Principal, there is one support staff.  The office is leased with security of tenure and is based in the centre of a town with around 200,000 residents in an excellent geographical location.  Towns such as Kidderminster, Droitwich, Worcester, Bromsgrove, Redditch, Great Malvern, Evesham as well as Birmingham are just a short drive away. There is a first rate train service connecting some of the aforementioned towns and the M5 is just a short drive away.  This practice does not hold any legal aid franchises and has no outstanding claims with respect to professional indemnity insurance.  For more information, email SolicitorSupermarketBiz@gmail.com quoting "Worcestershire Sole practitioner".

This is a Two Partner Solicitors’ Practice based in Mid Essex that the Partners are interested in selling as a going concern due to their wish to pursue other activities but both would consider remaining as consultants after disposal to assist with a smooth transition.

Turnover last year was approximately £523,000 and was made up approximately of Residential Conveyancing [9%], Wills/Trust/Probate [4%], Commercial Property [1%], Private Matrimonial/Children [36%], Legally Aided Matrimonial/Children [35%], Contentious Employment [7%] Claimant Personal Injury [3%] and Miscellaneous Litigation [5%]. The Practice holds about 430 wills/EPAs and 323 deeds.

The Practice is in the centre of a thriving and expanding mid Essex town. It has close proximity to a national rail station for easy access to London and the Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk coasts.  It has reasonably close proximity to the A12, A127, A128 and is about 20 minutes from the M25.

The Practice holds a Family/Matrimonial Legal Aid Franchise.

The Partners own the freehold premises where the Practice is based and occupies about 2,155 sq. ft. of office space, virtually directly opposite a major supermarket outlet. The freehold is worth in the region of £550K which would be available for sale or lease. These premises are more than adequate for the practice's current activities and offer room for future expansion.

Apart from the two Partners, there are 4 full time equivalent support staff. For more information, quote: Mid Essex

We are delighted to have been retained by a Regional Solicitors’ Practice with a national presence and client base.  My Client is interested in acquiring P I Practices, P I Files and/or P I caseloads.  They will even consider taking over the P I Department and the fee earners within a Firm.  In the event of acquiring an entire Practice, my Client would be willing to consider funding insurance run-off cover.

They are willing, subject to negotiation and agreement, not only to pay a lump sum outright for the files and the associated WIP, but are also willing to consider an interim payment followed by a shared payment on the satisfactory conclusion of the case.

All no-win no-fee P I work would be considered, including RTA, Clin. Neg. and industrial disease claims. No caseloads would be considered too small and any geographical areas in England and Wales would be of interest.

This is a unique and ideal opportunity for a practice that has P I WIP on their balance sheet and would be interested in an opportunity to release immediate funds which could then be invested in other parts of their Practice.  Quote: P I Acquisitions.
